THE IMPACTS OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN ORAL LITERATURE
Science; refers to inventions of things
Technology; refers to the application of science.
Science and technology which have impact on oral literature may include television, computer, radio, tape record, video shooting and invention of writings.
Science and technology has the impact on oral literature as follows;
i. Oral literature is now changed the medium of transmission from being transmitted orally it has deviated to science and technology which brought some media like books and magazines.
ii. The cost is so expensive, oral literature is now written or recorded on CD`s or DVD`s tape and television. It requires money for recording or writing.
iii. Oral literature is now not flexible that is no change can be made but it is recorded on those devices such as tapes and CD`s, to make changes is impossible.
iv. The setting is not specific. Before science and technology there was a specific setting where the story teller met with the audiences. But science and technology has made oral literature not have specific setting.
v. There is delay of feedback because the audience cannot meet with the story teller.
vi. vi. Storage is now transferred from the heads of people to CD`s and tapes.
vii. vii. The ownership has changed from communal ownership to individual ownership
